Never in a million years could Isabella (not her real name) have imagined herself becoming homeless.
But after she had to call the cops on her abusive boyfriend — who is also her baby’s father — the streets became her only option.
“It’s scary being pregnant and living on the streets,” Isabella admits. “It’s so different, going from living with your parents and enjoying warm meals every day to getting food once every three days from the dollar store.”
A SIGH OF RELIEF
“I would barely eat,” she remembers. “I got so skinny.”
After two months of couch surfing, wondering when she would eat again, and worrying about her safety, Isabella came to CityTeam — and breathed a huge sigh of relief.
“CityTeam helped me with everything I needed — before and after my baby was born,” she says. “They helped me with baby formula, diapers, and clothing for my baby. They helped me to grow closer to God and better understand His Word. And they helped me get my GED and encouraged me to go to college.”

A MOTHER'S WISH
Because of CityTeam staff, donors, and volunteers, Isabella now has hope for the future — hope that she’s determined to pass down to her little boy.
“I want him to be happy, of course,” she says. “But I also don’t want him to struggle. I’ve seen my parents struggle, and it hurts my heart. I don’t want that for my little boy. I want him to get a good education and grow close to God.”
Because she learned so much at CityTeam, she says she wants to become a social worker — “to give back what I received. I want to help other women like me!”
CHRISTMAS MEMORIES
One thing Isabella says she’ll never forget: Christmas at CityTeam.
“I’ll always remember the holidays here,” she says. “The presents, the joy, and the sense of family. It was a wonderful time to be with all the moms and the babies.”
